Sustainability in Action
Our Commitment to Sustainability
Phnom Penh International Opera Festival has signed the Glasgow Declaration, committing to musical excellence and environmental responsibility. To deliver on this commitment:
The full carbon footprint of Don Giovanni — including audience travel — will be calculated (a world-first for opera).
All emissions will be independently measured and certified.
Carbon credits will be purchased to support the Kah Sai Mo REDD+ project in Mondulkiri.
This positions Cambodia as a leader in sustainable cultural innovation.
2. How we offset
The Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary REDD+ Project:
Our carbon offset partnership supports the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary REDD+ Project in Mondulkiri Province through Everland and the Wildlife Conservation Society. The project protects Cambodia’s biodiversity and strengthens Indigenous communities.
The Project:
- 167,000 hectares of protected forest
- 950+ wild species, including 85 globally threatened
- 12,000+ Indigenous Bunong and Stieng people
- VCS & CCB Gold certified

3. How did we select our partners?
We selected NagaWorld, TADA, and Vireak Buntan because they each demonstrate measurable sustainability leadership in their sectors, the operational capacity required for an international cultural event, and a clear alignment with PPIOF’s mission to deliver Cambodia’s first net-zero-aligned opera production.
